Teresa is Wirral Hospice’s St John’s Income Generation & Marketing Director leading its retail, lottery, donor giving, events & corporates, and marketing & communications activities.

Hospice supporters and volunteers are incredibly loyal, often having had family members or dear friends cared for so they are brilliant ambassadors for us out in the community and on social media. Hospice Income Generation Network really supports that growth and development whatever career level we’re at. Every day can be a school day and there are thousands of like-minded individuals across hundreds of UK hospices that we can help to link up with through our training and networking. It’s a real privilege to be involved behind the scenes with the board of fellow volunteers who all work in a variety of income generation and marketing roles in hospices right across the UK.”

Teresa joined Wirral Hospice in July 2012 after working in London for 12 years for World Cancer Research Fund UK as its General Manager for the last four years of her tenure, and Head of Fundraising at the charity prior to that. Teresa held a few marketing roles before that including an interesting stint with an industrial door factory whose main claim to fame was making the doors for the Millennium Dome (now known as the O2 Arena)!

Rachel has worked various roles in fundraising over the last 20 years. After roles at the Brain and Spine Foundation, International Childcare Trust, and the Alzheimer's Society in London Rachel spent a few years in Belfast at Queen’s University. Rachel moved back to Scotland in 2019 and took up the role of Philanthropy Manager at Children’s Hospices Across Scotland.  Outside of work Rachel enjoy cooking, reading and spending time outdoors.

Augusta has worked for Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice since 2013, starting as a Community Fundraiser, and has been their Events Manager since 2019. Events are her ’thing’ and she enjoys the variety of the role, loves engaging with people and seeing the local community come together at fundraising events like the Mini Marathon and Colour Run to raise money for a cause that is close to their hearts.

“Being part of Hospice Income Generation Network allows me engage and connect with other fundraisers and share ideas. I love how collaborative the network is. If a  hospice in the north of England has a great fundraising idea they will happily share this with others so all hospices benefit and generate more income for patient care. This is a marvellous thing and has been invaluable during the pandemic.”

David has worked within the third sector for over ten years holding various positions in relation to both fundraising and volunteer management with national and local charities respectively. Having personal experience of the amazing service that the Hospice provides David is always focussed in doing his best for the patients and families which use the services. Currently looking after Fundraising, Events, Community, Trusts and Foundations and Communications.

Lorraine has worked in the charity sector for over 16 years, six of these in the hospice sector and is currently Director of Income Generation at St. Michael’s Hospice (North Hampshire) leading its Fundraising, Retail, Lottery, Voluntary Services and Marketing & Communications activities.  Prior to moving into the charity sector, Lorraine worked in the commercial sector in marketing and business development.

Lorraine says, “I feel fortunate to work in the hospice sector as each day I see wonderful acts of kindness from people supporting a cause close to their hearts.  It is also a sector of collaboration and Hospice Income Generation Network is a great facilitator for this. It is a privilege to be a Trustee of HIGN and support our sector to be the best it can be!”

Outside of work Lorraine likes to spend time with her family and five dogs.  She is also a volunteer for Pets as Therapy and visits patients staying at the hospice with her Therapy Dog, Polly.

Steph represents the South West region of the Hospice Income Generation Network and has been working at Dorothy House near Bath, since 2015.

Steph started her career within Fundraising, as a Community Fundraiser and is now working as the Relationship Fundraising Lead. Prior to working within fundraising she worked in a senior management role in the Retail sector.

Steph has always been passionate about engaging with people, building relationships and seeing the community come together to support local causes. Members of her family were cared for by the local hospice and she wanted to give back, so started volunteering as an events volunteer and then noticed a vacancy and went for it. She has never looked back!

Why do you love the Hospice Income Generation Network? 

“After working within the retail sector, coming into hospice fundraising has been a breath of fresh air. Everyone I have met that works within the hospice fundraising sector have been so supportive by sharing their experience and ideas. The HIGN platform has provided me so much in terms of networking, collaborative working, sharing knowledge and ideas as well as reassurance. It is so great to have this network available and I have created some lovely friendships out of it!

Becoming a trustee feels like a massive privilege and I am excited to be part of the network, supporting more hospices and more individuals going forward!”

Tom has been part of the hospice movement for around 8 years and is currently Director of Income Generation at Havens Hospices in Essex. Tom represents the Essex and East Anglia region and is keen to ensure all hospice fundraisers have the skills and knowledge they need to maximise the potential of the movement.

Why do you love the Hospice Income Generation Network?

I am and always have been incredibly proud to be a part of the hospice movement; collectively we support people and their families through the most difficult time of their lives and ensure that death and dying is as comfortable, informed and supported as it possibly can be.  However, as a hospice fundraiser I am motivated every day by the knowledge that in our local communities there are still people and families facing death and dying alone, without the wonderful support hospices provide. I don’t think it’s good enough that people, local people, even our friends and families, could face death without hospice support. 

The only way we can ensure everyone has the support they deserve at the end of their life is to raise more money. More money means more care provided, simple really.  For me, this is why organisations like the Hospice Income Generation Network are so important. There are so many fantastic fundraisers in the movement and the Hospice Income Generation Network is an excellent platform for all of us to learn, develop and share our knowledge so we can all grow.  We face similar challenges, deliver similar appeals and events, offer similar opportunities to our donors and, therefore, we can be a great resource to one another. I have no doubt that together we can make the hospice movement even stronger, for the benefit of people in our local communities all over the country.

Christine Davies is the Head of Supporter Giving at St Christopher’s Hospice. Having worked at the hospice since 2003, Christine has experience of many roles within the fundraising team and enjoys nothing more than seeing an appeal or event through from a nugget of an idea into a  successful income generator.

Christine was also a Trustee for the Hospice Income Generation Network from 2013 to 2023, and spent the last four of those years as the Chair. Christine was very proud to have been part of the team, leading the organisation through a period growth and transformation. In her role as a Strategic Advisor, Christine is enjoying sharing her knowledge and experience to help continue the upward journey of the organisation.

Veronica represents the Midlands region of the Hospice Income Generation Network and has been working for St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice since September 2011.

Prior to her current role as the Head of Fundraising & Marketing, Veronica was involved in Alumni and Educational Fundraising for Bishop Grosseteste University. Over the past ten years she has had a varied fundraising career leading teams across all income streams from community, major events, corporate and individual giving.

With one of the largest regions, Veronica is would love to hear from the Midlands Hospices about what they would like from their regional membership. She wants members to get value for money and is keen to ensure that regional meetings are hitting the right spot for its members. Chairing the region is a voluntary position and to ensure meetings are as educational and informative as possible, this is your opportunity to voice what you want.

“For me, the Hospice Income Generation Network is a brilliant platform to support and encourage fundraisers and their hospices to raise as much money as possible. The regional meetings and annual conferences really are fantastic, not just for sharing best practice and ideas, but they act as great networking opportunities meaning members really do get value for money. It’s also reassuring knowing that there is always a listening ear amongst members, there’s always someone who has either experienced or done what you’ve done and they’re always willing to support one another. Here’s to another successful year”

John Brady is Head of Fundraising at St. Andrew’s Hospice (Lanarkshire). John worked in sales, primarily advertising, until a personal bereavement led him to join the voluntary sector as a fundraiser in 1998. He has undertaken a number of fundraising disciplines including events, corporate, and trusts fundraising before specialising in Individual Giving. He has held a number of Senior Management Roles at various Scottish Charities.

Outside work he enjoys baking, watching football and amateur dramatics.

Keeley joined Wakefield Hospice as an Events Fundraiser in May 2005 and has been Fundraising Manager since August 2015. Prior to this she was Senior Fundraiser at Epilepsy Action for over three years. Her first role after graduating from University was in the financial sector working in Corporate Communications where she was responsible for the company’s CSR programme. Keeley is always interested to hear what other Hospice’s are doing and thinks it is important that we share experiences and ideas through mutual support, collaborative working and networking.

Matt represents the south west region of the Hospice Income Generation Network and has been working for Weldmar Hospicecare in Dorset since 2006. Currently as the Director of Fundraising & Marketing, Matt has held various other roles in his fundraising career including income streams such as community, challenges and major events.

With the south west region only being represented again from 2014 onwards, Matt is keen to hear from any hospices from Cornwall to Southampton, Cheltenham to South Wales and even the Channel Islands to become members in the south west.

Why do I love the Hospice Income Generation Network?

“For me, the Hospice Income Generation Network is a brilliant platform to support and encourage fundraisers and their hospices to raise as much money as possible. The regional meetings and conference alike are fantastic networking opportunities for all the Hospice Income Generation Network members. It is great to have such a positive and supportive umbrella organisation available to us and I look forward to welcoming more members in the years to come.”

Anne represents the Essex and East Anglia region, and has worked at Saint Francis Hospice since 2012.

Prior to joining Saint Francis Hospice, Anne specialised in PR, comms and media, working for an international church charity and MPs as well as regional and local businesses and organisations. A chance meeting with Saint Francis Hospice’s CEO at a client event heralded a change for Anne. She joined the hospice on a six week PR and Comms contract, and never left! She then moved to a corporate comms role, working for the CEO, before moving to the dark side in 2014 when she took up the new role of Head of Fundraising. In January 2018, Anne changed roles to head up the new Major Gifts programme for Saint Francis Hospice.

Anne is passionate about the Hospice Income Generation Network and all that it has to offer its members. Along with her fellow EEA rep, Sarah Green, Anne is keen to provide innovative, relevant training and opportunities to members, and her goal is to have the Hospice Income Generation Network members in every hospice in the region. Anne would also like to promote more collaboration amongst the Hosipice Income Generation Network members, so that we can work together to provide better opportunities and customer service for supporters, and give hospice fundraisers a louder voice throughout the country.

Why do you love the Hospice Income Generation Network?

“As hospice fundraisers, we are in the fabulous position of doing the same work as one another but largely without being in competition. I love having the opportunity to meet other fundraisers, sharing ideas and experiences – both successes and the not-so successful – and learning from one another. Fundraising is relentless, hard work so it’s good to be able to help and encourage each other, and the Hospice Income Generation Network provides a brilliant platform to do this. It’s also so helpful to hear from experienced professionals, both at regional meetings and conference, who can educate and motivate us to become more effective, successful fundraisers.”
